Big decelerating trend in export growth a major worry

The exports data for February, 2018 are not encouraging, said Ganesh Kumar Gupta, President, FIEO, as engineering, apparels, gems and Jewellery, cotton textile and carpets are showing negative growth. Need for supportive textile policy to become $300 bn market

In order for the textile industry to achieve its goal of becoming a $300 bn market by 2025, there is a need for supportive policy, and public-private partnership, especially in areas like research and development (R&D), an apex textile industry body said. “Through policy measures by the government in partnership with the industry, India could achieve $80 bn textile and apparel exports at an annual growth of 9 per cent.
