The Bangladesh cabinet has approved the draft of the Textile Act 2017, which will make it mandatory for all companies operating in the textile and apparel sectors to register their companies with the Directorate of Textiles. As per the draft, companies will have to obtain a license from the directorate to set up or operate a textile or apparel unit. This was informed by Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam to reporters after a cabinet meeting. “All industries related to the textiles and apparel sector will need to be registered with the Directorate of Textiles,” Alam said. “The directorate will supervise and monitor these textiles companies.” Additionally, officers from the directorate will have the authority to collect samples and verify the standard of any imported textile raw material.
