The Kingpins denim trade fair scheduled for Hong Kong in May has been cancelled because of global health concerns over the coronavirus epidemic. Kingpins organisers said they had decided to call off the event, which had been due to take place on May 13 and 14, because of “health concerns and travel restrictions due to the coronavirus epidemic in China”. They have decided to cancel, rather than postpone, the trade show so the next Hong Kong edition of Kingpins is not now due until May 2021.
Kingpins Founder Andrew Olah said: “We are very concerned about the situation in China and understand that many of our exhibitors and visitors are facing extreme difficulties and uncertainties due to efforts to curb the spread of the virus.”
Olah said that Kingpins would continue to monitor the situation in China, and he stressed: “The health and safety of exhibitors and visitors is our top priority.” For the time being, the Kingpins China City Tour, scheduled for early September, has not been cancelled but this will be kept under review.
Vivian Wang, Managing Director of Kingpins, added: “The Asian denim market remains a centre of the global denim industry and we look forward to bringing this international community together in September.” Other editions of Kingpins will take place as planned in Amsterdam (April 22/23) and New York (June 2-3).
