Apparel imports of Central and South America witnessed a sudden drop, falling from $792.197 mn in August 2022 to $485.579 mn in September, the region’s lowest monthly imports in the last one year. The sudden fall reflects the economic adversities seen globally.

The steep fall in the region’s imports in September shows an unusual trend when compared to the imports during the previous months. The monthly imports were recorded at $752.259 mn in July, $710.916 mn in June, $670.960 mn in May and $672.432 mn in April 2022, according to market report.

Central and South America’s quarterly imports also fell to $2,030.036 mn during July-September quarter from $2,054.309 mn in April-June and $2,602.073 mn in January-March 2022. Quarterly imports were recorded at $2,387.534 mn in the fourth quarter, $1,934.293 mn in the third quarter and $1,551.020 mn in the first quarter of 2021, as per report.

The total apparel imports of Central and South America for the first nine months of this year amounted to $6.686 bn. They stood at $7.565 bn in 2021, $5.879 bn in 2020, $8.750 bn in 2019, $9.274 bn in 2018 and $8.107 bn in 2017.
