The positive trend continues for retail businesses across the country as April 2022 sees the apparel sector sales grow by 23 percent compared to April 2019 (pre-pandemic level). Notably, when compared to April 2021, the growth is 42 per cent.
More on this, Retailers Association of India (RAI)’s 27th Retail Business Survey also says that in April 2022, overall retail businesses across India reported a growth of 23 per cent in sales as compared to pre-pandemic levels (April 2019).
Kumar Rajagopalan, CEO, Retailers RAI, said “It is heartening to see that customers are back in the stores, shopping and retailers are witnessing quantity growth in sales. While most of the categories have shown good performance, it is important to note that about 10 per cent of this growth can be accounted to inflation. We do hope that this continues since the headwinds, thanks to inflation, could act as a dampener for the upward trajectory.”
As compared to the pre-pandemic sales level in April 2019, overall retail businesses across regions have indicated growth in April 2022, with sales in North India indicating growth of 32 per cent, West India showing growth of 24 per cent, while East India and South India reporting growth of 18 per cent each.
