The 5th edition of Bangladesh Denim Expo was held from November 8-9, 2016 at the International Convention City Bashundhara, Dhaka to promote Bangladesh to the global market and share knowledge with global producers to get acquainted with latest technologies.

A total of 55 exhibitors from Bangladesh, India Pakistan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Brazil, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, Spain, Turkey, South Korea and Vietnam displayed their products in the 5th edition of the show the theme of which was ‘Natural Denim’. Buyers expressed their satisfaction getting exhibitors of entire denim value chain – from fabrics to washes – under one roof of Bangladesh Denim Expo. The exhibitors also made new connections in the show as a good number of buyers thronged the expo.

Buyers from the US, UK, China, Turkey, France, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Canada, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Russia, Portugal, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Bulgaria, Ethiopia, UAE, Brazil, Iran, Pakistan, South Africa, Colombia and Tunisia visited the fifth Bangladesh Denim Expo.

Two knowledge sessions on “Improving the unit economics of RMG Manufacturing industry” & “Choose the right way of denim washing” were held in the expo while three panel discussions — “$50 bn by 2021: ‘Innovation’ The Strategic Business Driver,” “Branding Bangladesh Through Denim” & “Investment in Denim Sector of Bangladesh” and one technical workshop on “Total Quality Assurance: A Value Proposition” were organised where international and national experts shared their expert opinions.

In the knowledge session “Improving the unit economics of RMG Manufacturing industry,” the discussant was Manasij Ganguli, Founder and CEO of ThreadSol; while in the another knowledge session “Choose the right way of denim washing,” the discussant were Moderator: Abdullah Al Noman Chowdhury, Country Manager, Gbos Laser Inc. Speaker at the discussion were Will Li, Sales Manager, GBOS LASER INC and Yang Liu, Marketing Director, GBOS Laser Inc.

In the panel discussion-01, “$50 bn by 2021: ‘Innovation’ The Strategic Business Driver” the discussants were Guest of Honor Dr. Thomas Prinz, Honorable Ambassador, German Embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Johan Frisell, Honourable Ambassador, Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The moderator was Mohammed Nasir, Vice President (Finance), BGMEA & Managing Director, Evergreen Sweaters Ltd and Speaker Najeeb Sayed, Country Manager & Dress Director, PVH Bangladesh, Arshad Jamal (Dipu), Chairman – Tushuka Group and Tuomo Poutiainen, Program Manager, RMG Sector, ILO.

In the panel discussion, “Branding Bangladesh Through Denim” the discussants were Moderator: Md. Atiqul Islam, Immediate Past President, BGMEA & Managing Director, Islam Garments Ltd. and Speaker Sophie AUBERT, Honourable Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador, Embassy of France in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Dr. Jochen Weikert, Programme Coordinator, GIZ PSES, Shantanu Singh, General Manager, C&A Sourcing Ltd., Dr. Nazneen Ahmed, Senior Research Fellow, BIDS, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

In the panel discussion session on “Investment in Denim Sector of Bangladesh” the discussants were Moderator: Asif Ibrahim, Vice-Chairman, Newage Group. Speaker for the session were Leoni Cuelenaere, Honourable Ambassador, Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bangladesh, Abdus Salam Murshedy, Managing Director, Envoy Group & Former President, BGMEA, Roger Hubert, Regional Head, Bangladesh & Pakistan, H&M/Puls Trading Far East Ltd, Mahbub Ur Rahman, Deputy CEO and Head of Corporate Banking, HSBC, Bangladesh. In the technical Workshop on “Total Quality Assurance: A Value Proposition,” the discussant was Dr. Karthik ND, Country Managing Director of Intertek Bangladesh.

Besides, a specially designed trend zone in the expo showed the latest evolutions and innovative trends on Natural Denim that would rule the denim world for the next seasons. Multiple special events of live demonstration were also held in the expo, including natural indigo dye by Living Blue which frames & processes natural indigo known as “Bengal Indigo,” and hand loom machine for salvage denim & hand scrapping. Moreover, the booths in the expo were made from sustainable and locally sourced materials.
