Brazil’s seasonally-adjusted industrial output increased by 1.1 percent month on month (MoM) and by 0.9 percent year on year (YoY) in March this year, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

As a result, the cumulative index in the year reached minus 0.4 percent, whereas the cumulative index in 12 months remained stable.

Output increased in three of the four major economic categories and 16 of the 25 sub-sectors surveyed.
The leather, traveling goods and footwear sector contributed positively to the output.

However, among the eight activities recording decreases, manufacture of wearing apparel and accessories (minus 4.7 percent) primarily affected the result of March 2023, having interrupted a sequence of three consecutive increases, with a cumulative 13.5 percent.

The production of semi-durable and non-durable products increased by 4.7 percent—the fourth consecutive positive rate in this type of comparison and the most significant since May 2021 (14.4 percent).
