The decades-long relationship between the Chinese and U.S. textiles industries should be a win-win situation, a senior diplomat said this week.
Chinese Consul General in New York Huang Ping shared his views on trade ties during the 24th China Textile and Apparel Trade Show at the Javits Center, which took place in concert with Texworld New York City, Apparel Sourcing New York City, and Home Textiles Sourcing.
“Over the past few years, the world has undergone profound changes, and China-U.S. relations have faced some challenges. But there are things that stay unchanged: First, economic and trade cooperation between China and the United States is mutually beneficial. Second, the two countries are highly complementary and interdependent,” Huang said, according to a report.
He stressed the value of cooperation between the two nations “instead of decoupling.” He also praised “the power of threads and needles” as symbolizing economic ties between China and the U.S.
Nearly 800 Chinese manufactures took part in the co-located textiles shows, including makers of fabrics, home textiles and apparel.
The 2023 expo marked the first large-scale return of Chinese exhibitors to the annual trade show since the pre-Covid-19 era.
