DSM Dyneema, the inventor and manufacturer of Dyneema®, the world’s strongest fibre™, has successfully concluded a dispute with the Israeli firm FMS Enterprises Migun Ltd (FMS) concerning the infringement and validity of DSM Dyneema’s patents. This is the final step in a series of disputes including earlier unsuccessful attempts by FMS to challenge the validity of DSM Dyneema patent relating to an improved polyethylene fibre of ultra-high molecular weight (UHMWPE). The action against FMS was filed in November 2017 and concluded in March of 2018.
“We are very pleased with this outcome, which again confirms the quality and value of our patents,” says Olivier Janin, VP Marketing and Sales of DSM Dyneema. In addition to said patent infringement case, DSM Dyneema also ended another dispute with FMS relating to a patent concerning improved unidirectional sheets and pressed protective life saving articles made of such sheets, including inserts, helmets and vehicle panels. FMS had opposed DSM Dyneema’s patent, which was eventually granted on March, 2018.
These results add to the company’s positive track record in intellectual property (IP) cases. It reconfirms the strength of DSM Dyneema’s IP portfolio that protects the company’s innovations and the use by its customers against infringements. The patents in these cases were also granted in various other countries of the world including the US, Europe and Asia. In addition to these patents, the patent portfolio of DSM Dyneema covers more than 175 UHMWPE fibre and fabric related inventions, protected by some 1500 individual patents and patent applications in several countries of the world.
