Swiss textile innovator HeiQ has teamed up with outerwear brand Patagonia to develop a new odour control technology based on a blend of mint oils. The pair has reportedly collaborated for over a year to refine the solution, the effectiveness of which has been demonstrated in lab and wearer trials.
Whilst the mint-based treatment combats present odours – neutralising them before they have chance to proliferate – the solution doesn’t compromise a fabric’s breathability or feel. It is plant-based and meets leading standards, as it’s Bluesign approved, Oeko-Tex certified and ZDHC compliant. The technology is also amid the process of clearing USDA bio-preferred certification.
“Out of all the anti-odour technologies we tested, HeiQ Mint provided the highest odour control performance, with the added benefit of being plant-based. This innovation enables Patagonia to deliver our customers high-performing products made with the best available chemistry,” Laura Hoch, the Brand’s Innovation Engineer commented.
HeiQ says the technology has the potential to be marketed worldwide because it doesn’t require biocidal declarations like some alternative solutions.
The company will put its latest solution front and centre of its display at the ISPO trade fair in Munich next week. At booth 502 of Hall C2, attendees can find the company’s team which will be on hand to discuss the technology in greater detail.
