A high-level delegation from the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, led by Member Secretary of the Central Silk Board (CSB) and Secretary General of the International Sericultural Commission (ISC), Mr. P. Sivakumar, successfully concluded an extensive multi-sectoral engagement in Georgia during November 17-21, 2025. The primary objective was to strengthen bilateral cooperation across the sericulture, textiles, apparel, and carpet trade sectors.

The delegation actively participated in the 11th BACSA International Conference-CULTUSERI 2025, where he delivered the distinguished opening address on behalf of the ISC, highlighting India’s pre-eminent position in traditional silk knowledge and its contemporary relevance to creative and cultural industries. He additionally presented a technical paper entitled “The Chronicles of Wild Silk.” Director (Technical) at CSB, Dr. S. Manthira Moorthy, contributed a presentation on productive bivoltine silkworm hybrid development through Indo-Bulgarian collaboration, addressing specific requirements for Indian sericulture conditions.

The Central Silk Board showcased its innovative “5-in-1 Silk Stole,” a premium product integrating Mulberry, Oak Tasar, Tropical Tasar, Muga, and Eri silks, conceived under the Member Secretary’s visionary initiative. This unique offering represents India’s rich silk heritage while demonstrating strong international market potential.

The delegation engaged comprehensively with key Georgian stakeholders, including universities, sericulture laboratories, research centres, textile firms, apparel manufacturers, carpet traders, and the Georgian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI). These strategic interactions emphasised enhancing bilateral textile trade, fostering industry collaborations, and exploring joint research opportunities. Meetings with senior Georgian government officials focused on identifying new cooperation avenues, improving market access, and expanding trade in high-value textiles and silk products.

Key outcomes encompassed strengthened India-Georgia cooperation in sericulture research, successful showcasing of Indian innovation, identification of trade diversification opportunities, including carpets, creation of institutional partnership pathways, and reinforcement of India’s global leadership role through active participation in the BACSA international platform, marking a significant advancement in India’s textile diplomacy and cross-border partnerships.
