JIAM 2024 OSAKA concludes, spotlighting innovations

 

Key players from various sectors took part in the 13th edition of JIAM 2024 OSAKA, known by its full name as the Japan International Apparel & Non-Apparel Manufacturing Technology Trade Show. Organised by the Japan Sewing Machinery Manufacturers Association (JASMA), the show wrapped up successfully after four days of vibrant business from 27 – 30 November 2024 at INTEX Osaka. This year’s fair featured 157 exhibitors from 10 countries and regions, attracting 8,909 visitors from around the globe.

Across the show floor, fairgoers engaged in dynamic business discussions. This edition’s inclusion of the non-apparel sector as exhibitors, including automotive, aerospace, and interior design, expanded the platform’s scope and attracted increased attention from visitors in these industries. Overall, fairgoers from the apparel sector and beyond took the opportunity to explore cutting-edge textile technology while networking and sharing cross-sector knowledge.

JIAM 2024 OSAKA concludes, spotlighting “At JIAM 2024 OSAKA, we bring together the latest technologies and trends from both the domestic and international sewing machinery industries,” remarked Ms Chizuru Suga, Director of the Industrial Machinery Division at the Ministry of Economy, during the opening ceremony on the first day. “I hope this exhibition will contribute to the further development of the sector and the establishment of strong international networks. I wish the fair every success.”

One of the show’s highlights was a special symposium titled “Solutions for Sewing Technologies.” Esteemed speakers shared their insights, including Mr Hiroshi Nakamura from JUKI Corporation Masahiro Shiraishi from Japan Apparel Sewing Industry Federation, Mr Tadahiro Kubo from Toray Advanced Computer Solution, Inc, and Fashion Designer Mr Kosuke Tsumura. Discussions spanned industry trends, domestic sewing opportunities, and sustainable practices, leaving the audience inspired to explore new possibilities. Comments from attendees highlighted the symposium’s value, with feedback including that the event broadened understanding of domestic sewing demand and provided an opportunity to reflect on the future of sustainable manufacturing.

Sebastian Kinnius, Head of Product Management & Marketing, Dürkopp Adler GmbH – “We established valuable connections with top customers from Japan, as well as visitors from South Asian countries such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. The quality of leads exceeded expectations, and we received very positive feedback from Russian visitors. Plans are already in place to exhibit at the next edition of JIAM, as we anticipate it will continue to grow as a key hub to connect us to Korea and South Asia.”

JIAM 2024 OSAKA concludes, spotlightingNicola Messali, Commercial Director, Morgan Tecnica Spa – “On the first and second days, we successfully secured high-quality meetings and appointments. Compared to 2016, there was a notable increase in visitors. It was especially valuable to connect with high-level decision-makers, such as company executives and general managers. Engaging with these key figures had a significant impact, and we are extremely satisfied with the results.”

Masanao Shinohara, Marketing Department, Yamato Sewing Machine Mfg. Co., Ltd. – “Top management from major domestic and international sewing companies visited our booth frequently, demonstrating strong interest in our displays. This resulted in fruitful business discussions and orders. In addition to showcasing our products, we placed a strong emphasis on branding, which helped visitors gain a comprehensive understanding of our products and services. We also saw strong attendance from South Asia, Central Asia, and Europe.”

Kouichi Miyake, General Manager, KLEIBERIT Adhesives of Japan Co., Ltd. – “This was our first time exhibiting with the aim of expanding brand awareness, and it provided a valuable opportunity to connect with companies we had not interacted with previously, including major corporations. We received high praise for our products, and although we had confidence in their quality, the response exceeded our expectations. The demand for our products has proven to be much stronger than anticipated.”

Katsuharu Yoshikawa, Managing Director, TISM Co., Ltd. – “Aligned with JIAM’s concept of showcasing new technologies and services, we focused on addressing challenges such as labour shortages while expanding the possibilities of embroidery. Our newly launched Embroidery Personalisation System received high praise from both visitors and other exhibitors, and we are very satisfied with the positive feedback and the strong interest it generated.”

Japan International Apparel & Non-Apparel Manufacturing Technology Trade Show has been held since 1984 as one of Japan’s largest sewing machinery manufacturers’ industry trade fairs. The next edition of JIAM will be held in Autumn 2028
