Cotton yarn prices in Northern India remain steady as new orders slow down. Traders from Delhi and Ludhiana report that there is little support from the consumer industry and export market. Spinning mills and traders are waiting for market conditions to improve so they can raise yarn prices and protect their margins. Despite the current market conditions, there is optimism that buying will pick up after mid-July.
Meanwhile, the prices of recycled yarn have fallen by Rs. 3-5 per kg due to sluggish demand. Cotton comber prices have also seen a slight decrease.
The Ludhiana market has witnessed a consistent trend in cotton yarn prices amid weaker buying from the consumer industry and exporters. A trader from Ludhiana told, “Despite the pressure of slow demand, mills and stockists are hopeful of an increase in prices, but current market conditions don’t support this.”
In Ludhiana, 20 and 25 count combed yarn was traded at Rs. 252-257 per kg and Rs. 257-262 per kg respectively. Carded yarn of 30 count was noted at Rs. 242-252 per kg, according to market report.
In Delhi, the market trend in cotton yarn prices is also stable. Buying from exporters and domestic industry has been average. A trader from Delhi told, “The market is stuck in the slow lane. It may not shift to the fast lane until mid-July. Before the start of the new cotton season, the market may receive some support. Purchasing is expected to improve.”
The Delhi market noted a stable trend in demand and prices of cotton yarn. 30 count combed yarn was traded at Rs. 265-270 per kg (GST extra), 40 count combed at Rs. 290-295 per kg, 30 count carded at Rs. 237-242 per kg and 40 count carded at Rs. 267-270 per kg, as per market report.
Panipat’s recycled yarn market has seen a downward trend in prices, attributed to weak demand from the home furnishing market and slow production in the downstream industry. This resulted in a drop in recycled yarn prices by Rs. 3-5 per kg. Cotton comber prices also decreased by Rs. 5-7 per kg.
In Panipat, 10s recycled PC yarn (grey) was traded at Rs. 77-82 per kg (GST extra). Other varieties and counts were noted at 10s recycled PC yarn (black) Rs. 48-52 per kg, 20s recycled PC yarn (grey) at Rs. 92-97 per kg and 30s recycled PC yarn (grey) at Rs. 135-140 per kg. Comber prices were hovering at Rs. 120-122 per kg. Recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) noted at Rs. 69-72 per kg.
North Indian cotton prices have remained stable amid a decrease in supply. Traders have reported that spinning mills have been slow in their purchasing. The arrival of cotton has also been diminishing as the season is now ending. Cotton prices have stayed at their previous levels. Today, the entire Northern region of India has seen the arrival of 1,150 to 1,200 bales of cotton, each weighing 170 kg. The natural fibre was traded at Rs. 5,850-5,950 per maund of 37.2 kg in Punjab, Rs. 5,650-5,750 per maund in Haryana, and Rs. 6,000-6,125 per maund in upper Rajasthan.
