The value of textile and garment exports from Pakistan decreased by 5.10 percent in July-November 2022, the first five months of fiscal 2022-23 (July-June). During this period, Pakistan earned $7.361 bn from textile and apparel exports, compared to $7.757 bn in July-November 2021, as per data released by the Country’s Ministry of Commerce.

Category-wise, knitwear exports rose by 2.53 percent year-on-year to $2,112.83 mn during the period under review, while exports of non-knit readymade garments were up 1.92 percent to $1,513.72 mn.

As for textiles, cotton yarn exports decreased by 34.87 percent to $328.20 mn, while exports of cotton fabric fell 4.43 percent to reach $903.69 mn in July-November 2022. Bedwear exports declined by 13.29 percent to $1,219.31 mn during this period, the data showed.

On the import front, synthetic fibre imports decreased by 37.87 percent year-on-year to $224.34 mn, while imports of synthetic and artificial silk yarn dropped by 23.27 percent to $264.04 mn during the same period.

Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan in July-November 2022 decreased significantly by 41.16 percent year-on-year to $212.76 mn, showing a drop in new investments.

In fiscal 2021-22 ended June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 25.53 percent to $19.329 bn over $15.399 bn in the previous fiscal. In fiscal 2019-20, the exports amounted to $12.526 bn.
