The value of textile and garment exports from Pakistan decreased by 1.34 percent in July-October 2022, the first four months of fiscal 2022-23 (July-June). During this period, Pakistan earned $5.941 bn from textile and apparel exports, compared to $6.021 bn in July-October 2021, as per data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
Category-wise, knitwear exports rose by 6.92 percent year-on-year to $1,712.606 mn during the period under review, while exports of non-knit readymade garments were up 2.46 percent to $1,187.059 mn.
As for textiles, cotton yarn exports decreased by 27.73 percent to $285.315 mn, while exports of cotton fabric rose by 1.27 percent to reach $750.115 mn in July-October 2022. Bedwear exports declined by 8.64 percent to $996.840 mn during this period, the data showed.
Pakistan’s exports of textiles and apparel slipped 15.23 percent during October 2022 to $1.357 bn from $1.527 bn during October 2021.
Synthetic fibre imports decreased by 39.48 percent year-on-year to $186.906 mn, while imports of synthetic and artificial silk yarn dropped by 26.88 percent to $1201.958 mn during the same period.
Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan in July-October 2022 decreased significantly by 37.01 percent year-on-year to $187.725 mn.
In fiscal 2021-22 ended June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 25.53 percent to $19.329 bn over $15.399 bn in the previous fiscal. In fiscal 2019-20, the exports amounted to $12.526 bn.
