The value of textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 4.18 percent in July-August 2022, the first two months of the new fiscal 2022-23 (July-June). During this period, Pakistan earned $3.056 bn from textile and apparel exports, compared to $2.933 bn in July-August 2021, according to latest data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 16.95 percent year-on-year to $884.759 mn during the period under review, while exports of non-knit readymade garments were up 8.49 percent to $634.596 mn. As for textiles, cotton yarn exports decreased by 17.03 percent to $160.453 mn, while exports of cotton fabric rose by 2.65 percent to reach $377.374 mn in July-August 2022. Bedwear exports declined by 3 percent to $512.291 mn during the period, the data showed.

Synthetic fibre imports decreased by 29.15 percent year-on-year to $115.030 mn, while imports of synthetic and artificial silk yarn dropped 24.04 percent to $117.182 mn during the same period. Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan decreased significantly by 35.38 percent year-on-year to $93.330 mn in July-August 2022.

In fiscal 2021-22 ended June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 25.53 percent to $19.329 bn over $15.399 bn in the previous fiscal. In fiscal 2019-20, the exports amounted to $12.526 bn.
