Poland’s retail sales at constant prices in January 2023 were 0.3 percent lower than the year before, against an increase of 10.6 percent in January 2022. Compared with December 2022, a 23.1 percent decrease in retail sales was recorded. The largest increase in sales was seen in the textiles, clothing, and footwear group—15.7 percent.
In January 2023, the retail sales of units trading in solid, liquid, and gaseous fuels recorded the highest decrease, down 12.3 percent at constant prices compared to a decrease of 2.2 percent in the same period in 2022, Statistics Poland said in a press release.
A 32.7 percent decrease in online retail sales value at current prices was recorded in January 2023 compared with December 2022. The share of online sales in total sales decreased from 9.5 percent in December 2022 to 8.3 percent in January 2023. On the other hand, an increase in the share was recorded for the textiles, clothing, and footwear group from 19.7 percent to 21.5 percent.
After eliminating the seasonal factors, retail sales at constant prices in January 2023 were 2.7 percent higher compared with December 2022.
