India’s spinning mills are on the verge of complete production closure due to poor demand for garments in the global market, leading to a decline in the purchase of cotton yarn and fabric. Particularly in Tamil Nadu (TN) and other southern regions of the country, these mills have announced a 50 percent reduction in production to minimise their losses. They are currently experiencing losses of approximately ₹20-25 per kg due to high production costs and low yarn prices.
