Tiruppur Exporters’ Association President, Raja M Shanmugham recently said that four of their members export goods transported through lorries to the Tuticorin port were stopped at the location called Pandalkudi, near Virudhunagar town and a notorious gang was opening and taking away the pieces randomly from the carton boxes and the theft is known to the exporters only when 100 per cent inspection was carried out at the Tuticorin customs. The compliant and FIR process are now going on. The culprit is arrested and is now is under police custody. The bitter part is that the lorry drivers were also hand in glove with culprit and they were tipped to the tune of Rs. 5,000 for stoppage of lorry near the place.
Raja M Shanmugham said these kinds of incidents might be happening a quite some time and the news has now came to the surface only when 100 per cent inspection was done at the end of customs department. As the consequences from the buyers end would be severe, including reputation and loss of future orders, he has requested his members to be cautious and arrange to send the goods only through GPS fitted vehicle mainly to track the vehicle perfectly. Further, he advised his members to ensure to send the goods through better track record transporters and also to make ensure that, Booking office is responsible for the goods.
