Chinese and Pakistani experts have agreed to forge a textile cooperation framework under the China-Pakistan Economic Cooperation by focusing on readymade garments, man-made fibres and textile skill training. This came through at a recent workshop organised by the Board of Investment (BOI) to deliberate on a diagnostic study on Pakistan’s textile sector.
The workshop was conducted by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China and China International Engineering Consulting Corporation (CIECC), according to a report.
The textile diagnostic report provided Chinese viewpoints on the potential and barriers of large-scale textile mills in Pakistan.
It has been agreed that the Chinese side will continue to provide intellectual and technical support to accelerate Pakistan’s priority sectors especially through the nine special economic zones (SEZs) of Pakistan under CPEC. Three SEZs have been prioritized and are now at an advanced stage of development.
CIECC submitted the textile diagnostic report at the 9th Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) meeting held on November 5 last year.
