Close on the heels of the President of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) AKM Salim Osman writing to the Government requesting cash assistance to the knitwear manufacturers, the Government has made available the same recently.
This is as per reports, which underlined this while adding the Ministry of Finance has released cash incentives of Taka 1, 000 cr for the export-oriented knitwear sector recently even as the ministry took the decision in this regard, almost 11 days after receiving an application from the BKMEA for financial support towards payment of salary and Eid bonus to the workers, ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Reports further added, the central bank of the country- Bangladesh Bank (BB) has been instructed by the Comptroller General of Accounts and the Ministry of Finance to clear the amount of cash assistance.
The letter by BKMEA President has reportedly also added if the financial assistance was not made available by the Government, the knitwear manufacturers could be in trouble over the payment of workers’ salary and bonus before the holy festival of Eid.
