The State Government will support the proposed textile unit of Sutlej Textiles & Industries at the industrial estate in Badanaguppe and Kallambahalli villages in Chamarajanagar district, Industries Minister KJ George said. The new unit will be set-up with an investment of Rs. 786 cr, and is one of the many new units coming up in the district. The Minister said that Sutlej Textiles will manufacture sportswear in the 46 acres of land allotted to it. The company is expected to provide jobs to 1,800 persons. The Minister, who also holds charge of the Sugar, Information Technology and Biotechnology and Science and Technology portfolios visited the industrial estate being Biotechnology, and Science and Technology portfolios, visited the industrial estate being established by the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board. The estate will be spread across 1460 acres.
George said that the Single Window Clearance Committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner has approved as many as 94 projects with a total investment of Rs. 162 cr in the district, and this will give a fillip to the development of the district and boost employment opportunities for youth.
The Minister said the government was keen to develop the Chamarajanagara district as it was most backward. Gundlupet and Yellandur taluks in the district have been classified under the most backward zone while Chamarajanagara and Kollegal taluks are classified as very backward. Under the State’s Industrial Policy, industries coming up in the backward regions are entitled to a subsidy of 20 to 25 per cent.
