The Bangladesh Garment Buying House Association (BGBA) has sought government support to expand Bangladesh’s garment sourcing network, particularly in emerging markets such as the Balkans, Poland and Romania.

The demand was raised when BGBA leaders met State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at her office on Monday.

According to the foreign ministry, the delegation discussed market expansion, new product lines and sourcing channels, visa support for commercial buyers, and a stronger role for Bangladesh’s Commercial Counsellors in promoting local manufacturers.

The association also sought greater diplomatic engagement with neighbouring countries to address sourcing and trade barriers and strengthen Bangladeshi business communities abroad.

The state minister asked BGBA to identify specific target countries and said Bangladesh Missions should maintain direct communication with businesses to facilitate market expansion and investment. She also stressed the need to support small businesses.

The ministry will continue working with BGBA through its International Trade, Investment and Technology Wing.
