A feasibility report has been sent on the establishment of a new State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd. (SIPCOT) Mini Textile Park near Embal in Avudaiyarkoil taluk of Pudukottai district. Officials in the district recently visited the site which is close to the proposed Industrial Training Institute near Embal. The officials surveyed the extent of land available for the venture.
Official sources said about 3.5 hectares of government land had been identified for the purpose. Details regarding road facility near the site was examined before submitting the feasibility report to the SIPCOT headquarters in Chennai. The SIPCOT had asked its Project Officer in Pudukottai a few months ago to visit Embal. With the feasibility report submitted, a decision on establishing the Mini Textile Park will be taken at the highest level, said the sources.
Embal is situated on the border of Pudukottai adjoining Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts. A request for the establishment of the SIPCOT Mini Textile Park was made by the Embal Development Group in Pudukottai district in July to the Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department.
“Establishment of the Mini Textile Park near Embal will give a big push to the rural economy as the project will generate employment to rural women,” said P. Perinbanathan, Lead Coordinator, Embal Development Group.
There were several women from Embal and other places in Pudukottai district who are employed at the textile units in Tiruppur and Coimbatore. The establishment of the Mini Textile Park would provide job opportunity and improve the livelihood of at least 1,000 rural women which in turn would benefit the rural economy, Mr. Perinbanathan said. The project is expected to support infrastructure development. It could also serve as a model for rural industrial development in Tamil Nadu, said Mr. Perinbanathan.
