The Garments Machinery Manufacturers & Suppliers Association (Regd.) – Expo announced the commencement of their third edition of GMMSA Expo-India 2018 which was held at Dana Mandi, BahadurKe Road, Ludhiana from February 25 to February 28, 2018.

Like every year 2018’s edition was organised to facilitate the garment machinery manufacturers and suppliers to showcase their products with the latest worldclass technology. An estimated 50,000 visitors from India and abroad were expected to attend the expo that has been a grand success ever since it’s very first edition in 2016. Spread over 2 lakh sqft. the expo showcased over 2,000 products on knitting, weaving, dyeing, finishing, printing, sewing machines and accessories by leading brands with participants from India and over 18 countries.

Ram Krishan – Chairman, GMMSA Expo India 2018 said, “We have been very fortunate that our hard work has paid off over the years. GMMSA Expo India has become a brand that has established its credibility. This expo is intended to capitalise on the opportunity to provide latest technology and knowledge at the doorsteps of the industry. GMMSA Expo India has become a proud moment for the industry as well as the Ludhiana city attaining recognition on the national industrial scenario.”

The expo delivers the most effective platform for this exhibition. The expo was organised by the industry itself for the betterment of the Ludhiana industry as a whole. One witnessed a special eagerness among leading brands of machinery to exhibit their products in GMMSA Expo. This support has made the expo the largest ever industrial exhibition of garment machinery in Punjab. The machinery manufacturers are keen to be at the forefront in showcasing their latest technology to increase productivity and achieve cost efficiency in each process of garment manufacturing making the industry more competitive.

The 3rd edition of GMMSA Expo India started with a big bang on, 25 February 2018. The first day of the exhibition showcased leading inventions in the world of garment manufacturing machinery. The expo was inaugurated by Vinod Thapar – Chairman, Knitwear Club, Charanjit Singh – Secretary Shawl Club, Sudarshan Jain – President KAMAL, Arun Aggarwal from KAMAL, Ashok Makkar of Dyeing Association, Lakshmi Gupta of Knitwear Club and Bakshi of GTE.

The first day of the exhibition saw a footfall of more than 12,000 where manufacturers demonstrated the latest technology in respective fields of garment processing. Last year there were 113 stalls and this year there were 163 stalls. Clearly, the expo has grown with a lot of support. The garment industry looks upon GMMSA Expo and GMMSA activities for up gradation of the machinery in all segments of garments and this are a matter of pride for the team.

GMMSA Expo India 2018, proved to be a huge crowd puller as visitors flocked the exhibition. There were Chinese, Korean, Taiwanese and European machines on display that attracted a number of buyers and traders to the exhibition. However, one could not ignore the presence of Make in India at the expo. Indian manufacturers displayed their ingeniously manufactured machines and it is safe to say that they garnered an equal amount of attention as the foreign made machines. There were a number of Make in India products that were on display at the exhibition. These products included knitting machines, mini boilers and packaging machines.

Gurdev Singh of Elex International said, “We manufacture power flats and semi jacquard machines in Ludhiana itself since we manufacture the components of these machines ourselves. But with the ever-growing technology, we need to compete with other countries as well and we can do this only with the support of the government. The industry will only grow when Indians patronize machines in their own country.”

There are plenty of machines that are faster and produce more, however, inventors did not left out the idea of energy saving. One of the biggest concerns of machine makers is that they need to make the machines that they manufacture energy efficient. This effort was visible at GMMSA Expo India- 2018 that witnessed a large number of visitors.

With the growing urgency to save resources, manufacturers are striving to make machines more energy efficient. The aim is to deliver effective production and to minimise wastage. Saving water and electricity is a challenge that all inventors face. However, it is only the love for the environment that helps them work towards inventing technologies that work for general betterment.

The focus lay on technology that reduced the consumption of electricity and other resources with some machines cutting down on electricity by up to 45 per cent. After proving to be a great help to knitwear garment manufacturers the grand show in Ludhiana GMMSA Expo India 2018 concluded on, 28 February 2018.

The expo turned out a great place to get a glimpse of the manufacturing machines and accessories all under one roof. On the whole, the exhibition was a hub of innovation over the four days and more than 62,000 people visited the exhibition. One key aspect of the expo was that it suited the SME sector of Ludhiana. Sandeep Singh Dhingra of Stitch Tech revealed that “We have on display machines more for a domestic setting. The Tajima Sai embroidery machine could be used within a house itself allowing very small manufacturers to set-up their livelihood.”
