30th edition of Garment Technology Expo (GTE 2020), one of India’s largest events dedicated to apparel & knitting technology was held recently at NSIC Exhibition Complex, Okhla, New Delhi. The four-day show, which ran from January 10-13, 2020, celebrated GTE’s 20 years of service in the industry and witnessed a rich mix of technologies on garment stitching and processing on display from around 800 brands and companies.

GTE has always been an integral trade platform cum showcase for companies, when launching new technologies and equipment. This edition of GTE witnessed participation from renowned companies from across the textile and apparel value chain exhibiting like, HCA, IIGM, “This 30th edition of GTE had better improved infrastructure. It’s bigger and better in terms, when compared to previous editions. This edition, there were many new direct participations from foreign companies and a lot of new entrants from sewing industry. Everybody who matters in the industry had fairly large independent booths Magnum, Mehala, Ramsons, Juki, Brother, Pegasus, Tukatech, EH Turel, Baba Textiles, Richpeace, INL International, Zoje Sewing Machines Co. Ltd, Dhaval Colour Chem, Narinder International, Colorjet, Jack etc. Live demonstrations of machinery were put up by many exhibitors. The show has witnessed participation from all over the country and foreign principals. As always due to our extensive marketing, robust campaigning and past deliveries, we had more than 16,000 visitors from all over India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Myanmar and African region,” says Ricky Sahni, Joint Managing Director at Garment Technology Expo.
Adding to this Ambrish Chopra, Director, Garment Technology Expo said, “This 30th edition of GTE had better improved infrastructure. It’s bigger and better in terms, when compared to previous editions. This edition, there were many new direct participations from foreign companies and a lot of new entrants from sewing industry. Everybody who matters in the industry had fairly large independent booths.”
The show this edition received encouraging reactions from the exhibitors. Most of participants were positive about the current market conditions as well as about the show. In terms of organisation the show in 2020 was better than 2019. When compared to its last edition in New Delhi the show this year was almost equal in terms of participation but witnessed an increase in visitors’ footfall. This shows that the apparel and textile industry is coming out of the impact of low market sentiments and turmoil, which was witnessed by India in last few years. The quality of visitors which comprised the serious buyers and decision makers from leading companies from all over India was very well appreciated by the participants.
Exhibitor comments…
The clothing industry is the second largest user of water on the planet, with each litre of water consumed also ending up as effluent, often containing unused chemical and particulate matter. Xeros Textile Technologies significantly reduces the environmental impact of garment finishing while delivering a high quality textile finish. India is a good market where government is pushing the industry to go towards sustainability and to be complaint. We are very lucky to be working here with Ramsons.
At Garment Technology Expo we are showcasing our sustainable denim solutions – XDrum 520 which incorporates Xeros’ technology manufactured by Ramsons Under the agreement on an exclusive basis across South Asia and Africa. I am quite happy with the response.
We have participated in GTE 2020 displaying some of the machines which were already showcased last year along with some new automated machinery like the pocket setter for knits, and also the neck joining machine. We are working with HCA in India since 2018 and who are very professional and have very good name and reputation in the market. In the beginning year, we had a small share in the market but we are hopeful of doing really well in 2020 in terms of sales and bring more value to the customers.
With the help of HCA we are focusing on to give customers more user-friendly updated machinery which will make their production process smoother. GTE 2020 is a bigger exhibition than last year; we can see more automated machineries and latest technologies being displayed all over. Of course we will be participating in GTE’s next edition in Bangalore in August this year. India has huge domestic and exports markets, wherein China market is going down. So due to order shifts it is expected to do well in 2020.
The customers today are open to accept the new technologies in India and invest in new things that can help them in improving their productivity & efficiency, and help them to manage their factories. We have displayed full range of Jack highend products in the 250-squaremeter Jack hall which is the 1st time in Indian exhibition, including IoT machines, spreader, template machine, a full range of lockstitch, overlock, interlock, special machine high-end models, heavy duty machines, etc. The highlight was Jack IoT(Internet of Things) shown first time in India which attracted many customers.
GTE is a good show, organizers have done a good job and they are very cooperative. With the great success of the GTE exhibition in January, we believe that we will achieve a big breakthrough together in 2020!
India is the most developing countries right now, where the economy is growing day-by-day. Zoje is a very supportive Chinese brand, and with the support of our local team we try and make sure that we provide proper service and do good marketing of our products all over India. Now, we have our own office and have complete service and spare parts spare parts back up here. As far as market is concerned, we have increased by almost 30 percent, when compared to 2018, in 2019. A company’s success depends on its strategy and dealer network as how it is operating in the market. We will be growing a lot in next 3 years in India, and our company policy is providing quality first and having healthy business policy.
At GTE, quantity of the visitors is less when compared to last year but it’s a good platform where all our partners come from all over India with customers with their problems and issues. We try and solve that, and continue to make solutions with our team as per their requirements. Overall it’s a good exhibition, and we have decided to take a bigger booth next year.
At this exhibition we have focused only on two parts; first is jeans automation like a pocket setter and loop setter, and second part is for knits garment like our automatic calf machine and auto heat transfer machine. India is a huge market and our Supreme company has been investing a lot in it since last one year, so now we have built our team and service centres in each area. We keep investing and developing this market. We have completed our first branch in Okhla, and next will be developed in Tirupur, Mumbai and other areas. The exhibition is very interesting, all the customers who are coming to our stall are very much interested in automation. So I believe Supreme will bring all its new Chinese automations to India very soon.
GTE will be organising its next edition in August in Bangalore and we will be participating in it to promote our products there. In India, we will be working with our own office and with the support of our dealer network. Our main purpose is to be very close to our customers by providing good service to them correctly.
Hemway is a leading supplier of smart clothing ironing equipment in China. We provide customers reliable products with energy-saving, smart and efficient features in the fields of clothing production, clothing washing and home application. We have various products on finishing segment like iron tables, power boilers, steam generators, water softener etc. In future, all our products will focus on energy saving. Our products consumed less electricity and water, so compared to traditional, our boilers are environmental friendly and promote green. We focus a lot on service, which is better when compared to others operating in the market. We have an exclusive strategy to work with Hari Chand Anand (HCA) company in India market . So we are very optimistic about our products future in India.
We are happy with the response we have received at GTE exhibition. We will also be participating in the Bangalore exhibition as it is very important for us to present there.
In the current economic situation when everybody is facing difficulty in terms of costing. By using our technology one can produce efficiently with labour saving. We are the first company in the industry which has chain stitch machine with direct drive motors manufactured. Besides, we are the only one having CE certifications for it. Indian market has its own problems, which are very unique and different from global market and requires Indian solutions only. The industry for last 2 years has been going through scenario where they are facing a lot of changes in terms of government policies like GST, not having quick funding facilities and they are also not having any agreements with US, EU or other markets globally, which is a disadvantage when compared to some competitive countries.
We inspire them to have this advantage of improving their efficiency. Every country has its own solutions to be competitive in the global market. India has everything from raw material to manpower to land, so you have your own advantages. Now I see a little positivity coming back into it. Going ahead, I see India continues to be very price sensitive market.
Ramsons are the largest supplier of garment finishing equipment in South Asia. It has four production facilities and 15 service centres across six countries. For last 20 years we have been working on a concept called sustainability. So if you see all the products which we have been doing, everything is focused on saving water, chemical consumption and earth’s natural resources. At GTE this year, Ramsons is proudly associating with the XerosTM textile technology solution which is a UK based company and have displayed XDrum 520 garment washing machine which incorporates Xeros’ technology manufactured by Ramsons in India.
We have been participating in GTE for last 20 years. The show has always been oganised well and brings customers from all major textile hubs of India as well as those which we are unable to meet normally from internal areas. It’s a great platform to meet those kinds of visitors here.
We are serving the apparel and textile industry for last 3 decades with 15 offices and over 500 employees, representing world’s best technology brands speaks volumes about our success and growth. We have complete technological solutions from cutting to finish product for apparel and home textile industry. This time we have displayed many new technologies from our principals.
GTE basically is a great platform all across India for showcasing latest technology, and we are very happy to be a leading part of that right from the beginning. Last few years have been slow for the industry both at domestic and exports front, which also reflected in the visitor turnout at the show.
But at the same time we had many quality visitors, and hope this transcends and translates into good business for everyone.
Bruce Sewing Machine Company from China is a member of Jack Holding Group. This time we are participating jointly in one hall with Jack. At GTE 2020 we have introduced our new Single Needle Lock Stitch (R5S) and Overlock Machine (X5S) series of machines. The patented designed lockstitch and overlock series can stitch lightweight fabrics to extra heavy fabrics without changing any spare parts for conversion of machines. These German designed machines are for exporter/fabricators for stitching any kind of fabric without changing parts. The inventory of machines will come down and the puckering problems in lightweight fabrics will come to an end. Apart from this we displayed our other regular models.
For us the year 2019 was good in spite of overall slowdown in the industry, and we hope to achieve good growth in 2020. Overall, there were fewer visitors in the exhibition when compared to last year but location of our booth is very good and we are happy with the response.
We have recently taken agency of Beworth for the Northern India market. They are one of the leading & largest manufacturers of high quality flat knitting machines in China. Here, we have launched Beworth flat knitting machine for sweater and shoe uppers. Apart from this, we have displayed spare parts for apparel and knitting industry, and spandex yarn from Korea. We have always participated in GTE. At this edition, the visitor turnout is low but we met some serious visitors who have shown good interest especially in our newly launched flat knitting machine.
The year 2019 was not good for the industry as it is going through global recession, and also our domestic industry was hit due to various policy changes done by the govt. But now things are settling down and everything will improve after Budget.
From HCA we have lots of new machines especially for knitted garments like Pocket Setter from Hikari and automatic machines from other principals for cuff, collar and placket making which can save 5-8 people in terms of labour and increase your production by about 400-800%. We’re working in this industry with each and everyone to achieve the level of efficiency from top to bottom level. We have added some new automatic machines to our range but will be expanding more in coming years. In terms of response there is lots of work in this market. India has been growing though it was facing two bad years but due to the domestic market it has started doing well for past 3 months. Hopefully, we will be increasing our business in 2020.
We have never felt any kind of problem with GTE. Whenever there is any issue, everyone from the organising team tries and solve that promptly, so we are very grateful to them. The response has been really good, even on the first day moning sold some machines. There are so many people visiting our stall and we had been busy throughout the show. We will be participating in GTE Bangalore edition in August again.
We are into unit production systems for garments and home textiles factories. The design of our hanger system is based on piece flow production which reduces WIP by 75% and improves production efficiency. It further transforms the factories to achieve automation, digitization and paperless. Now looking at present scenario of the industry in India, these systems are very important for increasing the productivity and efficiency.
This is the best platform to showcase the right technology. Every year we participate, and we are associated with GTE from last 5 years. Response is always good. This exhibition is the pioneer in India but timing of the show is not right. The year 2019 was slow for the industry but we did well and expect 2020 should be much better.
Since this is the beginning of the year and Tukatech also completed its 25th year so one of our latest launches is Tuka APM – automatic pattern making. It is the first step towards automating the pattern making where in any layman who doesn’t have knowledge of pattern can just feed the measurements and generate a pattern. This helps in quick costing which will also help the user to customise a pattern according to his buyers requirement. Along with that we have other existing products including CAD, automatic marker making, 3D etc.
GTE has always been good show for us. Mainly because this is the biggest exhibition we see in India and people from all over India, sometimes from neighbouring countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka also visit the same. The show is visited by many people from 2 tier and 3 tier cities, the industry people who get to know about the automation process which they can adopt in their factories and plants. Although the industry was slow but 2019 was a very good year for us and hopeful of doing well in 2020. Industry always talks about exports market but India has a huge domestic market so both the markets keep on balancing us.
We have an experience of almost 25 years in cutting room solutions. So, we know exactly what our customers need. For the first time we have displayed a new model CYG YIN state-of-art automatic cutting machine and automatic spreading machine here at GTE. In addition, we have super-fast & powerful Single ply cutting machine for car seat industry with SCOPE brand. We have also displayed an affordable range of Scope Spreader machines designed and developed indigenously for the small and mid-size manufacturers, and also new version of Richpeace CAD with latest CE compliant 2nd Generation MJKC series of cutting and marker plotter.
We believe that these technologies collectively provide an undaunted much required support to the manufacturing industry and which will alternately boost the industry and economic growth. With the help of automation in its process, an apparel manufacturer can achieve its targets. In my opinion 2020 should be good for the industry.
This time we have displayed the biggest pattern Seamer ,overlock single needle and other new overlock machines. The main benefit of these machines in the pattern Seamer you can do 10 colours at a time. So, it will help you in increasing your productivity and doesn’t require any skilled operator, even a normal worker can operate it. Now all our models comes with digitalization this saves lot of time in machine setting. We also have IoT based system which connects all the machine in a network. At GTE 2020 we feel there is very less visitor football. There were hardly 10-15% customers from Noida region. Many key customers were missing this time. Market sentiments are still negative according to the customers. 2020 looks promising, people are getting into new projects, which is taking time but still they are ready to invest in new technologies.
Big customers are having very good work orders. There is huge scope for big projects, which are coming up and many new projects are in pipeline. Even many foreign investors are coming up to India to set- up their units. Even in the two tier cities like Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, which are growing now, we have opened our offices.
We are not just trying to display the machines but to present the solutions. We are the only company here which is presenting some device and automation on each and every machine that we have displayed. Today customers want to know what solution we are ready to give, not only the machines. In the last two and half years government has changed their policies a lot. In terms of export incentives customers have understood that their bottom line has been affected and unless they improve their profitability they cannot sustain and survive. In last three years we have also changed our policies in the same direction of approaching the customers. Even the new models from Brother are trying to prove how much manpower you can save. One of the main products that we are focusing on is our Brother IOT systems which is going to be the future, which we started three years ago.
It is a very common word in all the industries but in garment industry I don’t think there was anybody who was having systems to capture the data digitally and on real time. The system is very unique and the way Brother has made it is very user friendly and requires very least data management before and after every style. GTE 2020 has not been up to the mark, the footfall has been really low but we had some very good quality customers from South India, which is one of the good factors here.
We are showing 3 new technologies at GTE. One is 8 heads digital textile printing machine from Atexco. Second is Flat knitting machine from Steiger, third is high end single head embroidery machine from Yuemei . Atexco is a very old company and they have been working with the textile industry since a very long time so they have the experience and expertise to make best kind of machineries. The build quality is very good, we are using the Kyocera heads which is there in all the higher and printing machines available in the market right now. From Yuemei brand we have launched a single head embroidery machine. It’s a high speed machine, very stable and build quality is also very good. Business wise, the response in 2019 has been very good. People are pouring in and we have been expanding in new markets.
We have taken digital printing to Ludhiana now where we got very good response. 2020 is expected to be a nice year. The textile market in general will go up. At GTE 2020, football has not been very high but yes those who are coming are of good quality.
This time we have come up with EpsonSureColor SC-F9330 dyesublimation transfer printer delivers high-volume prints using the most advanced technology without wavering on the quality it produces. Epson is going to come up with high speed printers which will be launched very soon. Epson is also coming up with their florescent colour printer. Monalissa is also there in our kitty for almost one and half years now for reactive printing. Apart from this, we have screen printing from M&R. DCC is basically offering a complete bouquet of products for printing. 2019 was obviously a tough year because of the international recession. Luckily due to complete range of products we were able to survive through the troubled time.
We expect a turnaround after March. Ultimately revolution is going to happen in digital and there are no two thoughts about it, and it is bound to happen now. GTE is the number one show all across India but this year because of slow market conditions, and it getting organised earlier due to Chinese new year, could be the reason behind lower visitor turnout.
We were supposed to display buttonhole indexer but due to space constraint we postponed it to the Bangalore exhibition in August. That was our new launched in CISMA recently.. Right now we have displayed a button feeder with colour sensor, and our other existing button wrapping & knotting, autojig pattern sewer, digital puller machines. We are coming up with a button feeder with the Logo sensor in coming six months. This year main customers who are really interested in buying the machines have been visiting the show. For us the customers who are mainly going for expansion have visited our stall.
Now majority of the visitors are talking about automation, not the basic machines. Overall, response was OK here. The year 2019 was not a very good year for the industry but we were able to achieve our target. Our company always focuses on providing good service to the customers, which is the key to our success.
H&H is one of the pioneers in the Seam Sealing and bonding technology. The company offers various models from economy to best of the technology since 1993. At GTE we have not come to sell the machine but we are coming and showing them what can be done with this technology. Hence we have displayes all the samples made with this technology. Now we are getting good response, earlier the people who were saying it’s an expensive technology have started entering the segment. GTE is a good show, but we want to request all the exhibition organisers to hold the exhibition once in two years so that we have a lot of time to make such huge participation investment as well as to develop new innovations.
We will be definitely be having a small space at GTE Bangalore edition August this year. We use this exhibition platform to create PR with industry as it is not possible for us to go and meet each and every customer at their respective units pan India market.
All the spaces around us have become digitised while we have so much potential here but very little investment has been made that can bring us more tech savvy. So what we have brought here at GTE is actually a software that gives you real time inputs on where your garments actually are, How you visualise your actions in real time, Calculating the overtime margins faster and better. Our company Zilingo has been around here for more than a year. We were more of at a marketplace and know the largest problem lies in the supply chain so we have come up with the solution, which is going to help all the stakeholders and suppliers.
Now we are more aggressive and you will be seeing us at all the places reaching all the customers. This is our first time at GTE and had good interaction with the visitors. Response has been good and we are really hopeful of having longer Association with GTE.
Zoje is number one in China in terms of quality but in terms of sales we are number 2. We are displaying here a lot of machinery starting from lockstitch, flatlock, Bartaking etc. We have changed the look of all these machineries and added more new features into it. We have displayed the machine with UBT . Response at the exhibition is good for us as most of the existing and prospective customers have visited the show. Though the number of buyers have reduced this time but quality has improved. We target quality customers only so that requirement has been fulfilled here. 2019 was not very good year for the industry. However, many of our competitors grew by 30 percent but Zoje grew by almost 40 percent last year. This year, we have added almost seven new dealers all over India especially in Southern India. We are planning hundred percent growth this year.
Besides, we will be participating in upcoming GTE Bangalore this year. But the organises should focus on all the areas, though they are doing good job but they should provide us proper electricity supply, and also the staff at the entrance should be made more professional and polite to the visitors.
Beacon International is a company established in India in 1996 and since last 24 years we have been agents of Gemsy. We have been regularly catering to them and have been participating in GTE every year. Our overall experience has been very good here and we are really happy with the show. We have displayed here button hole machine, button stitch and pattern making machines. 2019 was a very good year for our company and we hope it continues to be the same in 2020 as well. We have been working with Gemsy exclusively for last 20 years.
Sales wise, last year was really good for us. We have been associated with GTE for last so many years. They have done a good job, organised it really well. If the market scenario improves in 2020 will be really good for the industry as a whole.
Basically, we make sublimation paper in various GSM, and have just started sublimation inks. In India, we are the only company manufacturing both sublimation ink and papers together. Besides, we also make plastisol inks and water based inks for screen printing for last 15 years in India. Until 5 years ago a lot of sublimation products used to be imported from China but for last 2 years imports have reduced and most of the people are using products made in India. We are making good high quality products in India now.
We are also doing sublimation printers from China and which we have launched in GTE. Sublimation market has become very price sensitive in India, so we are offering products like a package wherein we are offering machine, paper and ink together at a good price. This is for the third time we are participating in GTE but the response wise we are not happy. The football is not very good but this is mainly because of the show taking place early this year. In terms of sales, 2019 was good for us, we have grown a lot and hope to do better in 2020.
