Denying reports that termed Indonesia’s textile and textile products (TPT) industry as a declining one, industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita recently said the sector’s performance is bouncing back. Statistics show compared to the second quarter of 2021, the third quarter recorded a 4 percent increase. He was visiting a textile factory in Bandung district in West Java.
Textile exports between January and October this year also increased by 19 percent and investment in the textile industry also rose by 12 percent to Rs. 5.06 trillion, Kartasasmita remarked.
The Ministry also encourages the textile industry sector to contribute to its acceleration programme, specifically targeting import substitution to reach 35 percent, reported. Import substitution now is only 13-14 percent, reported.
“We must reduce the import of TPT. Our 35-percent import substitution programme is an inseparable programme from the great philosophy of sovereignty in the context of clothing,” he added.
