John Furner has been named President and CEO of Walmart U.S., succeeding Greg Foran, who is leaving the company to become CEO of the airline, Air New Zealand Limited. Furner, who began his career at Walmart as an hourly associate in 1993, has for the past five years been working in the business segment under Foran, and is also the CEO of Sam’s Club. Furner will report directly to Walmart President and CEO Doug McMillon, and the move will be effective Nov. 1. Foran will stay on with Walmart through Jan. 31 to ensure a smooth transition, the company said. The company said it will announce Furner’s successor as President and CEO of Sam’s Club at a later date.
