Jordan’s apparel imports rose during the first nine months of this year by 27.2 percent to JD174 mn compared to JD136 mn during the same period last year, according to the Textile and Readymade Clothes Syndicate. Footwear imports during the period increased by 25.5 percent to JD42 mn compared to JD33 mn during January-September 2021.
China was the top exporter of apparel (40 percent) and footwear (62 percent) to Jordan during the period this year. The country’s apparel imports from China during the period amounted to JD70 mn, compared to JD56 mn during the same period last year.
Apparel imports from Turkey during the period were worth JD41.9 mn, those from non-Arab Asian countries (excluding China and Turkey) were worth JD41.6 mn, those from Arab states were worth JD13 mn and those from European nations were worth JD6 million, according to a report.
Over the same period, the country’s footwear imports from China amounted to JD26 mn, compared to JD21 mn for the same period last year.
