Kalaburagi is poised to emerge as a key player in the textile industry with the introduction of a new 1,000-acre Textiles Park. This major development, spearheaded by Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge, is projected to create 100,000 direct jobs and 200,000 indirect jobs, positioning the region as a significant hub in the sector.
In a meeting held on 3rd September with Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum and other senior officials in Bengaluru, Minister Kharge confirmed that the Karnataka government has allocated Rs. 50 crores in the current budget for the project. He emphasised the importance of ensuring the park’s sustainability by directing officials to explore various water supply options, including drawing 16 million litres per day (MLD) from a proposed barrage at Madri village, rejuvenating an existing tank within the park, and implementing rainwater harvesting mechanisms.
Additionally, the Public Works Department (PWD) has been tasked with developing durable road infrastructure to connect the textile park. The Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) has also identified space for a 220 KV power sub-station within the park. Minister Kharge further suggested incorporating solar energy initiatives, such as solar-powered street lamps, to enhance the park’s sustainability.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Vipul Bansal, Secretary of Commerce and Industries (Textile), KPTCL Managing Director Pankaj Kumar Pandey, and Textile Development Commissioner K Jyothi.
