Tamil Nadu-based KPR Mill Limited, one of the largest vertically integrated apparel manufacturing companies in India, is planning to enter branded retail business. The company, which has a capacity to produce 95 mn garments per annum, has initiated building up of ‘Retail business’ team. KPR has become 75 per cent self-reliant in power needs. “We wish to inform you that KPR plans to enter into ‘Branded Retail’ business. Initiated building up Retail Business Team,” the company said in a filing to the stock exchanges as part of disclosure of information under Regulation 30 of SEBI. “KPR has been continuously studying the Indian domestic market for the last five years. In the last one or two years, the domestic market is booming. So, in the next 5 to 10 years, it will be very good for the domestic market,” KPR Managing Director PNataraj said during Investors/Earnings Conference Call recently, while explaining the company’s decision to enter into retail. The company is initially planning to go for exclusive brand outlets.
