Maharashtra State Govt. cancels mandatory online registrationState Govt. has cancelled the mandatory online registration for powerloom operators to avail benefits of an additional subsidy, which was announced by chief minister Eknath Shinde before the Lok Sabha election earlier this year.

There are around 13 lakh powerloom units in Maharashtra. Power supplied to the textile sector is heavily subsidized, with costs of Rs3.5 per unit for simple powerlooms. Now, govt will bear the burden of Rs600 crore towards the additional power subsidy till 2028.

Vinay Mahajan, a textile activist based in Ichalkaranji, said, “State Govt. had insisted on an online registration to avail of the additional power subsidy, however, since we have already registered online for the existing subsidy previously, there was no need for this extra task. Therefore, we had requested state govt to cancel the condition, which has now been finally approved.”

Mahajan further said that textile operators are demanding that the additional subsidy be considered since the day the CM made the announcement in March, and power bills be sent deducting the sum accordingly.
