Ventile, the Swiss fabric producer, has incorporated Finnish biotechnology company Nordshield’s nature-based fabric technology into its ongoing sustainability initiative.
Fabrics from Ventile can be ordered by customers who have been treated with Nordshield’s technology. The resulting garments are sustainably produced, biodegradable and free of borax, parabens, heavy metals and quaternary ammonium compounds.
An ultrathin, molecular-sized barrier is created by Nordshield’s technology which physically inhibits microorganisms, says the company. This forms a durable layer on the fibres and acts as a shield and reportedly enhances the longevity of the item.
The barrier, which is applied after dyeing, part-way through the fabric’s production, is said to not affect the texture or colour of the finished garment.

In 2022, Ventile partnered with fitness brand Mover Sportswear on a collection of plastic-free sportswear and outdoor clothing.
