Tirupur Exporter’s Association has been approved as an Implementing Partner for SAMARTH (Scheme for Capacity Building in Textile Sector) in their member units, mainly providing training to the workers in the garment sector.
The first batch of training to fresh workers in 8 training centers, each located in the respective member units has been completed and to distribute the certificates to the 93 Candidates trained under SAMARTH Scheme.
Tirupur was an obscure town once has now been placed on the knitwear map of the world apart from catering to the whole of India. Tirupur is the country’s largest textile cluster and accounts for 90% of the country’s cotton knitwear exports. The success story of Tirupur can be mainly attributed to the entrepreneurial skills of the people coupled with hard work and commitment to the job. Within three decades, the knitwear exports from Tirupur has grownup by leaps and bounds, from less than Rs.10 cr in 1984 to Rs.23,620 cr in 2016-17 and in 2017-18, it recorded Rs.24,060 cr and again clocked Rs. 27,650 cr in 2018-19. During the year 2019-20, Tirupur exports was Rs.27,280 cr while in 2020, there was decline in exports due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
