Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) on Wednesday signed an agreement with Türkiye’s Ela Textile to establish a garment and denim manufacturing plant in West Qantara Industrial Zone, with investments of $16.5 million.
The project will cover 23,000 square metres and is expected to create around 2,500 direct jobs. It will produce about 7 million garments annually, including denim products, with 80 per cent of output designated for export and 20 per cent for the domestic market.
SCZONE Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dien said total investments in the textile sector in West Qantara have reached about $1.14 billion across 42 projects.
He said the authority is continuing efforts to facilitate industrial investments and accelerate project implementation in the zone.
West Qantara has become a key focus for textile and garment investments within SCZONE due to its location between the Red Sea and Mediterranean ports, he added.
