German exports were up by 4.5 percent and imports by 0.2 percent in June this year on a calendar and seasonally-adjusted basis compared with May, according to provisional data released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). Exports in the month increased by 18.4 percent and imports by 27.9 percent over June 2021 figures, it reported.
The country’s total goods exports in June this year were worth Euro 134.3 bn and goods imports worth Euro 127.9 bn. The foreign trade balance showed a surplus of Euro 6.4 bn in June this year. The calendar and seasonally-adjusted surplus had been Euro 0.8 bn in May this year and Euro 13.5 bn in June 2021. Exports to Russia in June this year were up by 14.5 percent to Euro 1.2 bn over May the 2022 figure, whereas they were down by 40.3 percent over the June 2021 figure. Imports from Russia rose by 4.8 percent to Euro 3.5 bn in June from May 2022.
Germany exported goods to the value of Euro 72.9 bn to the member states of the European Union (EU) in June this year, while it imported goods worth Euro 62.8 bn from those countries in the month. Compared with May 2022, exports to EU countries rose by 3.9 percent and imports from those countries by 0.3 percent.
The value of the goods exported to euro area countries totaled Euro 50.7 bn and the value of the goods imported from there was Euro 43.1 bn. Goods worth Euro 22.2 bn were exported to EU countries not belonging to the euro area, while the value of the goods imported from those countries was Euro 19.7 bn. Exports of goods to countries outside the EU (third countries) amounted to Euro 61.4 bn in June this year, while imports from those countries totaled Euro 65.1 bn.
Compared with May 2022, exports to third countries increased by 5.3 percent and imports from those countries by 0.1 percent. Most German exports went to the United States in June this year. Exports to the United States rose to Euro 14.2 bn. Exports to China increased by 2.4 percent to Euro 8.9 bn, and exports to the United Kingdom by 4.2 percent to Euro 6 bn.
Most imports to Germany in June came from China. Goods to the value of Euro 17 bn were imported from there—a 3.9 percent decrease compared with the previous month. Imports from the United States rose by 14.7 percent to Euro 8.5 bn. Imports from the United Kingdom dropped by 6.6 percent to Euro 3.2 bn in the same period.
