The Indian Government is taking steps to ensure growth levels in every district rise by 3 to 4 per cent so that the country’s cumulative gross domestic product growth (GDP) rises to 10 per cent from 7 per cent, Minister for Commerce, industry and civil aviation Suresh Prabhu said while addressing the Changemaker Awards 2019 in New Delhi.
The new industrial policy is aimed at ensuring that the industrial sector’s contribution to GDP rises from 16 per cent to 20 per cent, the Minister said. As India’s industrial sector has the potential to reach 20 per cent of GDP, the government has made a plan to identify the sectors that can, achieve that target, a report quoted the Minister as saying.
Twelve services sectors have also been identified, which, he said, could be scaled up in future. In the agriculture sector, the third area of focus, exports worth $100 bn from agro products are being targeted against $32 bn now, Prabhu added.
