Two new cotton processing plants have been opened in the Turkestan region of Kazakhstan. Located in the Otyrar district, the plants form part of a project to develop a cotton and textile hub. This was reported by Kazinform, based on information from the regional government.

With the opening of these new plants, which join the two opened in 2025, the district now has four cotton processing plants. Together, they have the capacity to process up to 320,000 tonnes of unginned cotton and produce 110,000 tonnes of cotton fibre per year.

The total investment in the construction of the four factories amounted to 17 billion tenge (around US$37.4 million). The projects have created more than 100 permanent jobs. The plants use modern technologies to clean and dry the cotton, as well as to separate the fibres from the seeds.

The development of the cotton industry in Kazakhstan envisages the creation of a complete production chain, from the cultivation of the raw material to the manufacture of yarns and finished textile products. This strategy enables the expansion of raw material processing within the country and increases the production of goods with higher added value.
