Telangana is well known for historical Textile sector operations with 50,000 power looms, 17,000 handlooms and skilled work force. It is the 3rd highest cotton producing state in India with annual production of about 5 mn bales. After having excelled in the fields of IT and Pharma, Telangana are now weaving dreams of making it big in the textiles sector. To begin with, the state is setting up the country’s largest park Kakatiya Mega Textile Park (KMTP) – spread over 1,200 acres, that will offer a complete manufacturing ecosystem for the textiles and apparel industry within its premises. Due to favorable climate for cotton cultivation, the manufacturing and production of cotton is in abundance and the textile companies are never short of raw material. The traditional handloom sector is the prime component for the textile companies and the government is planning for an all inclusive development agenda strengthening the textile sector for both the types.
At present there are 230,000 weavers and artisans, employed by the textile companies in the state who are skilled in the handicraft and their handloom products are renowned. The State Government is keen on developing the textile companies in Hyderabad as it is a suitable place for trading and manufacturing. The spinning and weaving of fabrics is done on large scale by companies in Hyderabad. The business environment is friendly and the opportunities for the textile companies are bright and in plentitude.
On the other hand, Andhra Pradesh is well-known for its huge variety of traditional silk and cotton saris. Many districts in Andhra Pradesh have their own unique weaving patterns, styles and methods. Apart from the designs, the fabric that is been used in making the sari is different from one district to another. It is ranked first in ease of doing business by World Bank. The Government has implemented many Schemes for Integrated Textile Park (SITP) which provides support for creation of world-class infrastructure facilities for setting up of textile units, with a Government of India grant upto 40 percent of the project cost with ceiling limit of Rs. 40.00 cr for each park.
