Knitwear Technology Mission (KTM), a unique initiative by the AEPC is now being transformed and repositioned as “ATDC – KTM Centre of Excellence” to serve the Knitwear Industry in Tirupur especially by promoting value added knitwear innovations and development of human resources and up gradation of technical capabilities. The inaugural ceremony was held on 15th March’ 2018 and the function was presided over by The District Collector – Tirupur, Dr. KS Palanisamy IAS and Chairman AEPC & ATDC HKL Magu launched the Centre of Excellence.
EC members of AEPC and leading exporters of the town also joined the event and graced the occasion. At the beginning, Vice Chairman AEPC welcomed the Chairman AEPC HKL Magu and Sr. Vice Chairman ATDC Rakesh Vaid for joining the new episode of ATDC. The District Collector was greeted by the management team of AEPC & ATDC and the formal inaugural function started.
The Director General & CEO ATDC – Dr. Darlie Koshy welcomed the gathering. Dr. Koshy referred about the fourth industrial revolution commonly termed as “Industry 4.0” the current trend of automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies, which includes cyber-physical systems, the Internet sort of things, cloud computing, cognitive computing and robotics in production. Now the industry needs to upgrade and progress on day-to-day basis. He further insisted the role of ATDC as a channelising partner between the industry and innovation, which strives in finding new teaching pedagogies to educate students rightly apt for the industrial needs. Dr. Koshy explained about the facilities available at KTM and on Continuing Education programmes available for people working in industries without formal education. He requested all the exporting communities to join in ATDC – KTM membership offered in Gold, Silver and Bronze categories. All the dignitaries on the dais were honored with ponnadai.
Launching of AVI & B. Voc Programmes
The District Collector – Tirupur, Dr. KS Palanisamy IAS, launched the AVI & B. Voc Programmes in ATDC – KTM “Centre of Excellence,” the collector emphasised the need for having trained qualified people to work in the apparel manufacturing sector. He further highlighted offering degree programmes in this trade and selecting the core area to work will definitely give carrier progression to the learners. Having a world class education set-up at ATDC – KTM is another appreciable remarks of the Collector. The Collector congratulated the veterans of the trade quoting the city is been driven by industrialists and wished everyone to continue the same with commitment and sincerity.
ATDC KTM Centre of Excellence
The Chairman AEPC & ATDC – H.K.L. Magu inaugurated the Centre of Excellence and stressed for Indian apparel export players the avenues available for synthetic market and importance of KTM into it.
Magu made his statements on the problems faced by the apparel industries and the tough competitions that export business is currently going through. Further stating the struggles met with competing countries like Vietnam, Cambodia and Bangladesh can be exploded only if India is coming out of its dependency on cotton products alone. For that set-up like KTM will make the garment exporters analyze the variety of synthetic fabrics made possible and value additions on it will have more foreign exchange reserve for the country.
ATDC – KTM Knitwear industry initiatives
The Vice – Chairman AEPC, Padma Dr. A. Sakthivel launched the ATDC – KTM Knitwear Industry Initiatives. Dr. Sakthivel cited about the hard phase the industry is facing through the Apparel exports have declined by 14 per cent in rupee and 8 per cent in dollar terms. Demonetization and GST imposition have made exporters into high financial crisis. Craving on cotton base and less value addition products will not improve the export turnover graph; hence more creativity and research based developments have to be encouraged, he further added.
ATDC – IAM Industry Projects and CE Programmes
Rakesh Vaid, Sr. Vice Chairman – ATDC launched the ATDC – IAM Industry Projects and CE Programmes, during his speech he expressed his happiness that the mission of KTM will start regearing with renewed energy on this repositioning and relaunching by ATDC. Vaid appreciated the entire team of ATDC – KTM in making the set-up of classrooms and other practical classes ready within a very short span of time. Further added degree programmes like B. Voc and CE are the opportunities for the persons with high creativity, and design knowledge. Interest to upgrade and ability to express one’s idea were all the objectives of this curriculum. At the end, The Chief Technical Officer Dr. KP Vetrivel thanked each and every guest for sparing their precious time and gracing this occasion.
