The maiden budget of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Thiru C Jospeh Vijay-led Government of Tamil Nadu for the financial year 2026-27 reflects the Governments commitment towards achieving State Vision of transforming Tamil Nadu into a 1.5 Trillion Dollar Economy by 2035-36.
The Government of Tamil Nadu has been taking numerous policy initiatives and extending benefits to strengthen the global competitiveness of Tamil Nadu Textile Industry that accounts 1/3 rd textile business size of the country. As one of the State’s largest employment provider, the industry is expected to play a pivotal role in achieving the ambitious economic Vision.
The Budget announced today by Hon’ble Minister of Finance, Dr N. Marie Wilson has allocated Rs.1,678 Crore exclusively for Handlooms & Textiles apart from allocating Rs.2,022 Crore for Labour Welfare and Skill Development that would also benefit the Textile Industry and Rs 4,414 crores for the Industries Department to provide impetus to the industries to attract investments.
In a Press Release issued here today, Mr Durai Palanisamy, Chairman, The Southern India Mills Association (SIMA) has welcomed the Budget and thanked Hon’ble Chief Minister, Thiru C Joseph Vijay for giving a significant support for textile industry. He has welcomed the announcement of Tiruppur Textile Technology Centre with a budget outlay of Rs 2,022 Crore aimed at creating world class infrastructure for the production of environmentally sustainable clothing. He has welcomed the announcement of Technical Textiles Transformation Scheme, Tamil Nadu Institute of Designs and Loom Modernisation scheme.
SIMA Chairman has appreciated numerous policy initiatives announced for strengthening the power sector in the State. He has welcomed the announcement of Rs. 6080 crores for the Green Energy Corridor III to evacuate 11,000 MW renewable power, Battery Energy Storage Systems to draw private investments and secure grid stability.
Mr. Durai has hailed the allocation of Rs. 1,390 crores to erect 178 new substations and modernize around 40,000 transformers. The allocation of Rs. 8,000 crores via public-private partnership (PPP) mode for expanding a large scale power station at Ennore. Sima chairman has welcomed the announcement for the creation of special industry investment zone, logistics, infrastructure and network.
Mr. Durai has welcomed the allocation of Rs. 150 Crore for Under the Vetrithiran Training Scheme to provide skill training to one lakh people in a phased manner in collaboration with Government and Private organization along with a monthly stipend during the training period this will help to address the industry’s growing demand for skilled manpower.
SIMA Chairman has welcomed the allocation of adequate funds for establishment of new SIPCOT industrial parks, Women Entrepreneurs Empowerment Scheme, announcement of new industrial policy and the launch of TN Single Window 3.0 which would facilitate faster approvals through a streamlined single window system. These initiatives coupled with the proposed schemes for emerging technologies and AI would also help the textile industry to enhance the global competitiveness of Tamil Nadu’s textile industry.
